“This is a space that describes waste.”
Located at the final stop of the Lize Resource Incineration Plant tour, this space combines bottom ash and cement to create a resting and dialogue area. The work “Five Tons of Garbage” explores the volumetric relationship between waste and bottom ash, which constitutes about 15-20% of incinerated waste.
By creating a real volumetric comparison, the piece highlights bottom ash’s composition. When mixed with cement, the bottom ash’s presence fades, but we reveal it again through a cross-section cut.
Ultimately, the cycle of resource use returns to humanity. This space not only describes waste but also serves as a place for reflection, encouraging viewers to reconsider waste management before disposal.
